Take The Personal Development 30 Day Challenge!

September 10, 2008

Is there anything you really wanted to change about your life. Any old habit you wanted to break or any new habit you want to develop? Think of how much richer your life could be if you developed new more fulfilling habits. Maybe you want to quit smoking, learn a new language, meditate everyday, exercise everyday or you have other such personal development goals that you never quite got around to attempting, let alone achieving. If this is the case then why not take up the thirty day challenge! What is the thirty day challenge? Basically it is an extremely simple, yet effective way of changing habits in your life. You see, very often the hardest part about forming a new habit is actually starting and lasting for more than a few days. Breaking a habit or forming a new one can be particularly tricky to do as it seems changing something for the rest of your life is so daunting that often you will not start or give-up soon due to the enourmity of the task. However with the thirty day challenge all you have to do is stick with it for thirty days, then you can go back to doing whatever it is you want, no questions asked!

This type of psychology gives you the critical feeling that it is of course not forever and that you can indeed achieve a worthwhile objective, such as not smoking for thirty days. After the thirty days you may of course choose to start smoking again or you may choose to continue with your new behavior which after thirty days has also had time to form as a new habit for you. Mentally it is just so much easier to deal with, you can tick days off a calendar or countdown the days until your target date, either way it is so much more motivating.

After the thirty days you will have time to assess whether or not your new habit serves you. If it does then you will find it much much easier to make it a more permanent behavior. You will have had time to benefit from the new habit, break the old habit and bed in the new habit. From this position you will easily be able to tell if it is something you want to continue with or not. You may also like to extend the challenge to 60 or 90 days to keep the psychological effect of it not being a permanent change and to give you a new target and challenge.

Of course it is not all easy going, the first few days will of course require effort on your part especially in terms of commitment and discipline but if you are selecting a goal that is going to improve your life then surely it will be worth it and you can even start counting your days down to freedom.

Here are some great ideas for 30 day challenges that could really benefit you in both the short and long term:

Read everyday for an hour, meditate everyday, commit to an exercise regime, cut out fast foods, eat your 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day, call a different old friend each day, contact a family member, give-up TV completely, study a new language, quit smoking, become vegetarian, stop drinking alcohol, take time to relax more, stop watching soap operas, do Yoga, stop wasting time in on-line forums or online games, meet a new person each day. The list of possibilities is only limited to your imagination and what you deem beneficial for your life. Even if you don’t want to make a permanent change go ahead and improve yourself in the short term, you will gain from the experience of personal development whatever the outcome.

Whilst for some activities doing them everyday may not always be the ideal way, for example running for new people can be stressful on the muscles and joints, sticking to it everyday makes it a lot easier to stick to as you don’t have the excuse of just taking a ‘rest’ day. So I urge you now to make a chart with 30 days on it, write down what you are going to do to improve you life and start now!

What is a Dehumidifier?
Dehumidifiers are household appliances that help reduce the humidity levels in the air. There are primarily two types of humidifiers – desiccant and mechanical.

Desiccant dehumidifiers (or passive dehumidifiers) are named for their use of a desiccative substance to dehumidify the air. This substance has an affinity for water vapor, and the dehumidifying process involves exposing the desiccant matter to an air stream with high relative humidity. These dehumidifiers do not utilize compressors and are best used in areas with low temperatures and relatively low humidity levels. Desiccant dehumidifiers can also be used instead of mechanical units or in combination with them. Although not as efficient as mechanical models, they are usually very inexpensive to purchase. Examples of desiccant dehumidifiers would be the Eva-Dry EH-500F and the Eva-Dry EDV300.

Mechanical dehumidifiers (or active dehumidifiers), however, are much more common, efficient, and are simply air conditioners with both the hot and cold coils in the same box. A fan draws the room’s air over the cold coil of the AC to condense the moisture, and this is often collected into a bucket. Dry air will then pass through the hot coil to heat it back up to its original temperature. Therefore, mechanical dehumidifiers will slightly raise the air temperature, as opposed to air conditioners, which will cool the air as it dehumidifies it. Examples of mechanical dehumidifiers would be the NewAir AD-400 and the Soleus CFM40.

How to Buy a Dehumidifier
When shopping for a dehumidifier, there are several factors to consider such as the size of the unit, dehumidification capacity, and safety features. Below is a list of some of the most common things to look for when choosing a dehumidifier and what they mean to you:

How To Develop A Positive Mental Attitude

Why develop a positive mental attitude?

Well, if you look around at the high achievers in this world…in any field, you will find nearly always that they display a positive mental attitude to their field of success. They may do this knowingly or otherwise but simply put you will get much more success if you do the same.

Here are a few qualities that successful people with a positive mental attitude display which you can emulate with a bit of effort:

1) The word failure does not exist and therefore has know power over successful people. Look for the positive possibilities in every situation. What other people would term ‘failure’ should simply be translated into a sign of what not to do the next time you attempt to do it, and believe me successful people will always try again…

2) This neatly brings us to the quality of perseverance. If something is worth doing now, then you will likely still want to achieve it next month, next year or whenever, so why stop trying? If you desire your goal there is no reason to stop trying until you have attained it, come what may. Know before you start that success won’t be immediate, accept this, formulate a realistic plan, write it down, follow it through, make modifications if necessary but keep going. Writing down your plan immediately gives you a confidence boost as it allows you to see exactly how you can achieve your goals which in turn stimulates your motivation aswell.

3) Take responsibility for your situation and actions. Most successful people acknowledge that they created their current circumstances due to their previous actions. Their current situation is believed to be merely a reflection of their previous thought patterns. If you have this the opposite way around then you will seemingly feel the victim to circumstance rather than the controller of it and the deliberate creator that you can be.

By taking responsibility there is therefore know attempt to blame others or for you to hide from the fact that you might have made a mistake which created your situation. By being honest in this way it is easy to make amendments to your thoughts and actions to create future success.

4) Be committed. Develop a ‘whatever it takes’ approach. This mentality is an extremely important part of a positive mental attitude. Life is full of stories of people with less natural talent becoming more successful than their more talented counterparts. They go the extra yard to be successful, they do the extra training, stay behind after class, run a few more minutes on the treadmill and so on. In short they make life pay the price. Often this part of displaying a positive attitude can feel frustrating. However successful people realize that success is just on the other side of frustration and use it as a good sign post towards future success.

5) Focus your energies on what you do want and not what you don’t want. Energy is always creative, particularly your thought energy so don’t waste it on negative things. Remember, what you resist persists. So, by seeing the negative in a situation you are actually fueling it and making it into a greater problem. Simply, if you have what you term a negative situation look again and focus on the positive possibilities and give them your thought. These areas will subsequently expand in your mind with avenues that could lead to positive solutions to the initial problem. These thoughts will naturally lead you to more successful thoughts and the spiral continues.

6) Be decisive. Successful people with a positive mental attitude make decisions and stick to them. If they decide they will achieve a certain goal then they will not go back on their decision regardless of how fruitless their task can seemingly appear to be. Remember Thomas Edison the famous inventor of the light bulb. 9,999 attempts and no success commented that he had achieved 9,999 ways not to invent a lightbulb, before actually doing so. Imagine if he had given up after 2, 3 or even 500 attempts!. His decision to invent a lightbulb was made and remained unchanged until he had done so.

The above are just a few of the main ways in which you can adopt a positive attitude. Their are many more ways contained in this site so take you time and browse around or sign-up to the newsletter to stay in touch with your positive side.

How to Get More Out of Life Through Positive Thinking

June 25, 2008

Have you ever stopped to think about how the situations and circumstance in your life have come about? If so and if you are honest enough you will in time see that what you are is merely a reflection of your previous thoughts, words and deeds. In this respect the bible passage Galatians 6:7 KJV holds particular relevance:

‘Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.’

Ok, in modern day terms that may translate to something along the lines of, you get out what you put in, your current actions have later reactions, you get what you give. Say what you will, if your honest you know it is near enough the mark not to be ignored.

So, the question to be asked now is how can change my current thoughts, actions and deeds so that in the future I get more of the things in life that I do want?

One way to immeditately change your view on your current situation and therefore to change it in the future is to recognise and eliminate the inner lies that people so often accept as part of their being.

By adopting a few of the approaches below you can make significant and lasting positive changes to your life. Don’t take my word for it or the words of any of the higly successful people of the past and present but discover the thruth through your own life. Try some of these…
1. Make a decision and take action! Most people will resolutley make a decision or a declaration and believe that because they have made the decision the problem has been fixed. Not true. A decision has never really been made until it has been acted upon. So, make a decision and act upon it! Ideas are the source of all, but there real value only materialises when they are acted upon, when the thought becomes deed.

2. Do you have written goals? If not then it can be easy to let your focus drift or even to forget and lose sight of what you are looking to attain. Research clearly shows that 90% of the top performers in any given field are goal setters! Putting them in writing is the first step in taking them out of the realm of energy and manifesting them into real life.

3. Expectation is what brings the goal nearer to you, action is what takes you nearer to the goal. You need to successfully address both ends of this equation. Expectation is linked to what goals you set. I would find it difficult to expect to earn a million dollars passive income in a month, however 1000 dollars a month passive income in a years time would be a far more reasonable and attainable goal. Therefore with the correct plan and with discipiline I could actually expect to achieve this goal and not just have it as some imginary elusive goal.

4. Don’t ignore your feelings. If you do something because you think that it will take you closer to your goals but it makes you feel negative and fearful, then choose another way. I don’t mean walk away from challenges but if something feels bad about the method you are using to attain a goal then try a different method that feels better and makes you happier. Keep reaching out for the next better feeling. Doing this will always keep you moving in a positive direction.

5. Match up your thoughts, words and deeds. Develop a picture in your mind of what you want. make it clear and vivid. Speak positively about yourself, make positive affirmations to yourself and don’t let your actions contradict your vision. If you have a vision of yourself as being slim and healthy choose an appropriate action to match that vision: eating healthily, runnning and so on. The real power in your mind is when all of these three aspects of yourself are aligned, this is where your real power lies!

Now make a note of the suggestions from above that you feel would be beneficial for you to apply. Now don’t just look at the list, challenge yourself to take positive action on them today! Making these thought processes a natural part of your everyday life is the key. You can do that starting now!

Make Positive Thinking Work For You

May 5, 2008

Positive thinking is hailed by many as the reason they have succeeded in life, with so many books, DVDs and so on on the market at the moment it can become frustrating when you aren’t seeing or feeling positive thinking making much difference in your life.

There are many reasons why this may not be working for you but buying all the books in the world probably won’t improve things if you are unable to change a few things from within. Here are a few reasons why positive thinking may not be working for you and what you can do to change that situation:

Many people get so distracted by the outside world that it leads them away from where the answers really are and that is that all the answers are within… and so to is your happiness. You do not need to search you just need to look within. Some people do this through meditation others through walking in nature others through relaxing in the pool. However you wish to go about it doesn’t matter, what matters is that you actually do go within. Remember the phrase ‘if I do not go within, I go without and it is so true.

Spending time meditating is an ideal way to find peace in your mind, to establish exactly what you need to do to achieve your goals and how exactly you are going to go about it. Saying I don’t have enough time is not an option. They are the words of someone who doesn’t want to do something. Set your alarm ten minutes earlier if needs be because looking within your self and correcting your mental focus is the single most important thing that will make positive thinking work for you.

Do not let what you cannot do affect what you can do! That is a powerful message that should be taken on board. If you concentrate and focus on the things that you are unable to do you are in effect pushing yourself away your goal from you. Instead of feeling bad about the restrictions that you do have placed upon you, focus on what you are able to do. Remember you do not have to know how you will achieve your over all goal you just need to believe that you will. Let each stage of the journey towards your goal unfold in front of you as you go.

Thirdly, you also need to develop positive habits. This is a real key. Just meditating every now and then is not going to be enough to change your mindset consistently, but doing so daily will provide a much better clarity of thought and focussed mindset thus achieving greater results. Develop habits such as when you are commuting to work think about all the things you have to be thankful for. This thankfulness is a real positive thought and you can then transfer this positive feeling towards that which you want to achieve, bringing it closer to you.

The above are just a few quick tips on what you can do for free to help you become more positive in your daily life. There are many more ways to do so and none of them require money, only desire on your part which you obviously have as you have already found this article, so no more excuses.

Positive Thinking and Belief

March 23, 2008

One of the most important things in trying to achieve any noteworthy goal is that of believing. Believing that you can and will achieve your goals. In fact believing so much that you expect it to happen. When you expect something to happen obstacles can then be seen not as problems but as natural events that must occur in order to for the expected outcome to manifest. Remember belief is complete and absolute faith and contains no doubts only positive thinking.

Belief is on three levels: thoughts, words and actions. If you only believe something in your mind but don’t demonstrate this belief through your thoughts and actions then you are going to make little progress. If you only talk a good game then that too is not going to make great strides towards your goals, and we have all met people like that. However when you believe on all levels that is your thoughts, words and actions do not contradict eachother and  are all focussed on the same goal then you are in control of a very powerful creative force.

Indeed expectation through belief via the law of attraction moves the goal towards you and actions and thoughts move you towards the goal. Thus all three combined can manifest your goals much quicker.
This process of simply focussing your thoughts works! Have you ever had a particular thought running through your mind and then noticed a group of related subjects, events, people or places showup in your life? For example, maybe you have been thinking about where to go on your next holiday suddenly all the posters in travel agents windows, adverts in glossy magazines and so on continually jump out at you and people you meet have just comeback from places you are thinking of visiting. After this then it is your turn to make the next step with your words and actions in organising the holiday.
Of course these things were always there just you had not placed your focus on that area so your mind did not let you notice them. Your mind is programmed through selective attention to get rid of all the clutter and leave you with only the relevant information. Having this ability to focus helps you continually discover new things, circumstances and opportunities to achieve your goals that much quicker as you can continually pursue them through these new avenues with your words and actions.

For example walking down a street an advertiser would subconsciously notice the blank advertising space on the side of the wall whereas the real estaste agent would notice the vacant building nearby which could be renovated and sold on. You see it is the same situation for both people only our subconscious mind which we have programmed through our habitual thoughts allows to notice that which we have programmed it to.

If you wish to program your mind there are plenty of positive thinking techniques such as positive affirmations, visualisation techniques, developing positive habits and so on that will allow you to do so, however they would all ultimately comeback to belief, that inner unwavering faith. So the key message here is there are no coincidences only that which you bring about through your belief and focus. So believe and focus.

Those who think they can, can.

Positive Thinking – The Cutting Edge

March 16, 2008

The ‘Cutting Edge’ referred to in all areas of life as that which separates seemingly otherwise inseparable competitors putting one ahead of the other. Sportsmen training hours upon hours, businessmen seeking the next big deal. Whatever area of life, we could all do with a bit more of a cutting edge.

So how can you develop a cutting edge?

The easiest way to do this is whenever you are working or finishing a task before you are about to finish as you normally would, ask yourself how you can do one final thing or make one further improvement before you actually do finish.

It may take only an extra ten minutes, maybe a few more sprint drills for the aspiring footballer or maybe an extra couple of phone calls chasing new business at the office but whatever it is you can be guaranteed that those extra few minutes over a few months, years and a lifetime will add-up considerably to providing you with an extra edge over people that stopped when you had originally planned.

Develop the habit of always seeking to give that little bit extra, don’t see it is a chore but as a very worthwhile investment in yourself, your life and for your future.

Be aware that it does take time to develop a cutting edge and it is not an overnight thing but more of an accumulative effect of all the extra efforts.

The secondary effect of the cutting edge is also the extra confidence you gain in knowing that you have put in the time and effort to develop yourself. An increase in self-confidence automatically leads to an increase in expectancy which as you may know already is an important key in utilising the law of attraction. Indeed for this reason alone it is worth trying to develop a cutting edge not to mention the accumulative benefits you will get from all your extra efforts over the years.

Discover How To Conquer Your Fear

February 16, 2008

Fear is the opposite of love.  Fear is the worry, the dread of what you think may happen to you if things don’t go right for you. The feeling of fear can be felt right the way through your body it disrupts your mind, it can make you sleepless and if allowed to fester can bring about the thing that you actually fear most.

The story of Job in the Bible illustrates this point perfectly. The book of job is one of the oldest books in the Bible and may indeed contain one of the most important passages, namely Job 3:25:

“For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me.”

This is almost inevitable when fear overcomes you, for if your every waking thought and most importantly if your over-riding feeling is of fear and you can only manifest what is in your thoughts, then it must be so. Remember the thought first and then the thing. Fear should be avoided at all costs. Here are a few useful tactics to try and combat fear:

  • No your enemy: Work-out exactly what it is that you are fearing. Sometime it can be difficult to pinpoint what is bothering us most so write down exactly what it is that is troubling you. Once you can see it in black and white you can see it for what it really is which can often reduce the fear factor straight-away.
  • The ‘Law of Attraction’: This seems to be a bit of a buzz phrase at the moment but this law is really as old as the hills, no-one can really prove it or disprove it but by holding onto the feeling of fear you are very often drawing it more and more into your reality.
  • Use fear as a motivation: Some boxers claim fear is what keeps them going, keeps spurring them on, forces them to keep their guard up when they need it most and makes them alert and aware of their surroundings more. Try turning fear around on itself in this manner and use it as a tool to help you rather than destroy you.
  • The world will not stop spinning: Remember that whatever your problem large or small even in the worst case scenario the world will not stop spinning, you will find a way and things are never as bad as they seem.

  • Mindfulness: Try dropping doubtful and fearful thoughts. At first this is not easy but remember you have complete control over the thoughts you put in your mind, no-one else. When a negative thought springs to mind be aware that it is their and then consciously drop that thought, change it to a positive image of you achieving your goals. This positive thinking tactic alone can change your fortunes.
  • Turn your fear into opportunity: Fears tend to revolve around problems so try to see your problem more as an opportunity. welcome the problem as an opportunity to test yourself and grow. Take a step back and see it for what it is, whatever the situation imagine a way through it and make it so. Some of the biggest disasters in history have been the starting point of amazing success stories.

These are just a few pointers but positive thinking combined with perseverance and a positive outlook on life you can and Will conquer your fear…if you want to. You are ultimately in charge of your thoughts and you can change them to whatever you want them to be, do not let fear dictate to you!

Beyond Positive Thinking: The Power to Change

December 17, 2007

Everybody has at some time or other found themselves in a situation or rut in life which they find hard to get themselves out of. There could be any number of scenarios, for example: an ever increasing credit card debt, a bad smoking habit, a career that is too draining or unfulfilling, health problems. In fact you can probably insert your own situation here that you are in the midst of or remember being in.

If you find yourselves in one of these situations here are a few positive thinking points you may wish to bear in mind when trying to turn things around.

Firstly, the chances are that you helped create the situation you are in through the choices or more than likely the lack of positive choices that you did or didn’t make. The good thing about that is that it must mean that you are perfectly able to work your way out of the situation through your own choices too, which you can.

Secondly, once you have decided to change be aware that a decision has never been made until it has been acted on. If you decide to stop using your credit cards then chop them up, just saying you are not going to use them is not enough. Physically go ahead and take action.

Thirdly, it is always helpful to write down the goal of what you are actually trying to achieve. In this way you are being as clear as possible to yourself and others about what you are trying to achieve. When writing your goals make them realistic so that you can actually believe that you will achieve them. If you create an unrealistic goal the problem for most people is that they see the big void between where they are now and where they would like to be and they become fearful about not achieveing the goal. This fear then focuses their mind on the lack of what they want and not upon achieving the goal. It is no wonder then that a lot of people get what they do not want.

Fourthly, never compare what you have with another. Doing so can easily make you frustrated about your situation. Try to visualise yourself in the situation you want to be. For example, see yourself running around the park early in the morning with fresh air going through your lungs and not a cigarette in sight.

Finally, perseverance. If you want to give up OK no problem go ahead give up but remember there is very little else to do in life apart from create and live life, so wouldn’t it be better to live it the way you want? If you want to change go ahead and change however if you are not really so interested then keep reading self-help books, listening to CDs and DVDs and wondering why things never actually improve for you because seriously they won’t unless you make them. Take consistent purposeful action towards your goals and keep going. In fact Winston Churchill summed it up pretty well with:

“You create your own universe as you go along.”

So why not start creating the things you want. You have the power to change your life, nobody else does!
