Make Positive Thinking Work For You

May 5, 2008

Positive thinking is hailed by many as the reason they have succeeded in life, with so many books, DVDs and so on on the market at the moment it can become frustrating when you aren’t seeing or feeling positive thinking making much difference in your life.

There are many reasons why this may not be working for you but buying all the books in the world probably won’t improve things if you are unable to change a few things from within. Here are a few reasons why positive thinking may not be working for you and what you can do to change that situation:

Many people get so distracted by the outside world that it leads them away from where the answers really are and that is that all the answers are within… and so to is your happiness. You do not need to search you just need to look within. Some people do this through meditation others through walking in nature others through relaxing in the pool. However you wish to go about it doesn’t matter, what matters is that you actually do go within. Remember the phrase ‘if I do not go within, I go without and it is so true.

Spending time meditating is an ideal way to find peace in your mind, to establish exactly what you need to do to achieve your goals and how exactly you are going to go about it. Saying I don’t have enough time is not an option. They are the words of someone who doesn’t want to do something. Set your alarm ten minutes earlier if needs be because looking within your self and correcting your mental focus is the single most important thing that will make positive thinking work for you.

Do not let what you cannot do affect what you can do! That is a powerful message that should be taken on board. If you concentrate and focus on the things that you are unable to do you are in effect pushing yourself away your goal from you. Instead of feeling bad about the restrictions that you do have placed upon you, focus on what you are able to do. Remember you do not have to know how you will achieve your over all goal you just need to believe that you will. Let each stage of the journey towards your goal unfold in front of you as you go.

Thirdly, you also need to develop positive habits. This is a real key. Just meditating every now and then is not going to be enough to change your mindset consistently, but doing so daily will provide a much better clarity of thought and focussed mindset thus achieving greater results. Develop habits such as when you are commuting to work think about all the things you have to be thankful for. This thankfulness is a real positive thought and you can then transfer this positive feeling towards that which you want to achieve, bringing it closer to you.

The above are just a few quick tips on what you can do for free to help you become more positive in your daily life. There are many more ways to do so and none of them require money, only desire on your part which you obviously have as you have already found this article, so no more excuses.

Positive Thinking: Conscious Creation 2

October 30, 2007

Mediocrity happens by default.  Success happens as a result of intelligent, planning and forethought. What you are doing today will thus effect your world of tomorrow. Think of it this way: at this moment you are nothing but a reflection of your previous thoughts, words and deeds.

‘Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.’
 (Galatians 6:7 KJV).

So what are some easy ways of implementing intelligent action?
Well, three really easy positive thinking methods you can use to consciously create your own future as opposed to being dictated to by the situations and circumstances of the world include:

Goal setting: by this I mean take some time-out to consciously think about what you want to achieve or how you want to be living your life. Don’t focus on material wealth but focus on what will make you happy. What will make your soul feel alive inside. Once you know what it is you want it is far easier to take the next step.

Develop a clearly defined time related plan. By putting your goals and a plan in writing you make a firm statement both to your self and to the universe about what you intend to achieve. Your goals are now no longer merely dreams but concrete objectives with a clear pathway lined out to follow. Indeed writing your goals down is what takes dreams out of your mind and starts to bring them into reality.

Aligning your thoughts words and deeds. Once you have managed to follow the first two steps then you must then develop the habit of using thoughts and words and deeds to work in your favour…and not against you! By this I mean there’s no point being half-hearted about achieving your goals. If it is what you want to do then don’t let your thoughts and actions contradict eachother. Turn the habits in your life into positive habits that will aid you in your progress towards your goal instead of just letting them be everyday habits that have no focus.

Remember that thoughts become things so whatever you are habitually thinking about you are creating in your life. With the above positive thinking points in mind there is no reason why you should be unable to achieve your goals and dreams in life.

Conscious Creation

October 23, 2007

Do you sometimes feel like life is constantly repeating itself, like you are in a rut, that life is just passing you by?

Well if so then you are not alone. Some people are actually happy with this situation they are content to take whatever life throws at them and they are happy to be pushed around by the situations and events that life throws at them. Indeed they can see know other way of leading their life. No other way of playing this game of living even if they desperatley would like it to change.

If you would like to take control of your life a good first step would be to try ‘conscious living’ by this I mean try and really focus on the moment and on each and every decision that you are making. For each situation you find yourself in don’t make a decision based upon what other people perceive is right or wrong or on other peoples advice or indeed on their past experiences. By doing those things you are not actually making a decision for yourself you are merely following the footsteps of others and are not atually making your own judgements in a way you are having no real say in your life as you are not searching within yourself to find the answer.

Next time you have an important decision to make look within yourself. What feels right for you? Make a judgement based purely upon what you think or feel about the situation and don’t look anywhere else for the answer. By doing this you are the one steering your life. You are the one playing the game of life and not merely letting it pass you by!

Go ahead take control, take a risk enjoy your life and be happy. I have never met you and I am never likely too but I know this about you…you are wonderful and incredible in so many ways, just go and express them!

Are You Using The Three Dimensions of Positive Thinking Enough?

September 9, 2007

Mind-Body-Spirit, id-ego-superego, father-son-holy ghost, mind-matter-ether, body-mind-soul. Whatever you choose to call it people from all different types of background; academic, philosophical even new age all tend to agree that there consists three dimensions to ourselves. The implications for positive thinking are huge and indeed it is not until all these aspects are bought into line that a person can really harness the power of positive thinking and make dramatic progress…sometimes even miraculous progress towards their goals.

So has anyone alive gotten their three dimensions into line I hear you ask?

Well, yes certainly. Take a look at any successful person and the chances are they will have achieved some degree of alignment within their dimensions. I happen to have just watched a clip of tennis player Roger Fedderrer collecting yet another trophy. He certainly has addressed all of these aspects and it has been a major reason for his success. His competitive mindset, focussed attitude, and persistent rigorous training all align his three dimensions adequately.

Let me just say here that my preferred way of phrasing these dimensions of ourselves is that of: thought-word-action. I find using this phrase makes it abundantly clear what needs to be done.

First your thoughts have to be of clarity and purpose. You have to know what you want, you need to have some sort of plan, believe you can achieve it and have the ability to drop negative thoughts from your mind. This is particularly important in the case of thoughts regarding fear. Once you can consistently control your thoughts and keep them channelled towards your goal then you have the first of the three dimensions under your control.

Secondly your words have to match your thoughts. There is no point thinking one things and saying another. Words are very powerful. They can be used to re-affirm to yourself what your intentions are, they can be used to pass on your thoughts to others so they to may assist you and they can also effect the actions of others in the future.

Thirdly your actions must also match your thoughts and words. What is the point of thinking and speaking in a certain way and then when it comes to the crunch not actually following through with these intentions. It is said that a decision has never been made until it has been acted upon. This is very true as regards your actions. No one can make you do anything…only you can take the correct actions to help you achieve your goals.

Now take a look at your own life goals at the moment. If you are not making the progress you would like examine your own dimensions. Do your actions really match up with your thoughts? Do you speak confidently about achieving your goals with others? Do you let fear run free in your mind and intefere with your positive thoughts? If any of these occurences ring a bell then maybe it is time to be honest and acknowlegde that your progress is going to be slow until you get these three aspects in to line.

The good news however is that with a bit of time and practise these dimensions can all be put into alignment with eachother and you can make significant progress. Indeed there is nothing you cannot be do or have should you choose to follow this approach. Go ahead now, believe in yourself and create a fantastic life.

The Magic of Decision and Making Things Happen

August 6, 2007

Recently a couple of Australian travellers arrived at a bar in Bangkok, Thailand. After the Australians efforts at ordering an extra cold beer were thwarted by a lack of thai speaking ability an expat English man stepped in with a few choice words of thai which enabled the procurement of a cooler beer. Subsequently the Aussie couple were soon in discussion with their new friend about all their travels around Asia.

However, it soon became apparent that they weren’t quite the ordinary couple that you’d expect. Indeed having lived on a fairly isolated Island off the eastern coast of Australia which had hosted the Dalai Lama and was also home to various people who shall we say were more in tune to the environment than what would normally be expected. Indeed one of the people living on the Island apprently had the same sixth sense which enabled her to have the same visions and abilities normally reserved for Aboriginee elders.

Now what has this got to do with positive thinking. Well, this couple had been so effected by the type of people they had been surrounded with they had seemingly adopted some of there powers!

What they would do is decide where they wanted to go over the course of a few days and then they would simply hit the streets and walk…without a map and set off to find them. Curiously enough all they would do was follow the path of least resistance, by that I mean if they were at a cross-roads they would simply go in the direction that the little green man allowed them to go or where-ever the next convenient break in the traffic allowed them to go.

Now amazingly enough over the course of a few days they managed to locate and visit all of the palaces, temples and tourist hotspots that they had wanted too and even managed to get into the grand palace for free. Now if you have ever visited Bangkok then you will understand it is not the easiest place to simply wander around and orientate yourself.

The only explanation I can offer is that of positive thinking. By that I mean they both had targets of what they were going to do, they decided they were going to do them and they took action to bring them about. I guess with those three elements it should come as little surprise that they were successful.

Imagine if you applied just those three simple principles to any goals you were trying to achieve, how much quicker would you reach them. Individually on their own each element has no great magic but (I mean anyone can set a goal) but collectively the total effect seems greater than that of the indvidual parts. This extra element, maybe you could call it luck or good fortune was simply the effect of combining all three elements.

So I would urge anyone to set meaningful written goals, make a decision and commit to them and then take persistent action to attaining them.

Furthermore whatever decision you are struggling to make, make it and you will be amazed how correct you were! Then maybe you too can yield the power of positive thinking</a> just as our Australian friends there.

Succeed In Life Through Visualisation

June 27, 2007

What is visualisation and why should I bother with it?

Visualisation is a positive thinking technique where you use your imagination to create a picture or movie in your mind that you deliberately put together yourself. Rather like painting a picture you have complete control to create an image that you desire. By seeing this picture you will:

a) be able to focus more on achieving that goal because you are very clear what you want.
b) be providing yourself with a boost in confidence and motivation as you will start to believe that you can actually achieve that particular goal and will also be more likely to persist with your plans.
c) avoid the negative influences of other people as you have already made the decision about what you want to achieve.

You should try to visualise everyday whenever you have a spare moment. Try to make this a habit maybe on the commute to work, before you go to bed or whenever best suits you. First try to clear your mind of everything else. You may wish to use some relaxation techniques here, some people find deep breathing works fine: deep breaths in through the nose out through the mouth. Now simply create the mental image in your mind that you wish to achieve.

The image you see should be as real as possible. Who is there? What colour clothes are people wearing? What time is it? What is the exact situation? Even what does it smell like and most importantly, how does it feel to have achieved this mental image and goal?

Tips to develop your visualisation skills:

Some people find it difficult to develop visualisation techniques. Here are a couple of exercises you can try to improve yours:

1) Close your eyes and think of someone close to you…your partner, parent friend or whoever. Now focus on their face. What shape is it? Once you’ve got the shape now fill in as many of the details as you can? The hairstyle, skin texture and so on. How accurate can you make this picture? After a few attempts you should be able to develop this into a very life like image and given time you will be able to use this skill to visualise other objects, people and places easily.

2) This time think of a happy memory. Maybe the first time you met your partner or a particularly happy afternoon on holiday. Now select one scene or image and try and rebuild that scene in your mind again in as much detail as possible. Really see yourself in your mind living that memory again.

You may also wish to experiment with the law of attraction here. Choose a pleasant experience or object you would like to possess. Choose something not too out of the ordinary…like winning the lottery, maybe something like a chance meeting with an old friend, a bouquet of flowers or something else along those lines. Hold the thought of that thing in your mind. Visualise it as we have been talking about and try to hold the image for a minute or so excluding all other distractions and actually experience the feeling of having it now.

Do this a few times throughout the day for a few days then wait and really expect for it to show-up in your life. Now I’m not going to gaurantee anything here but I think you should try this for yourself and see what manifests in your life.

Inside of you is an immense amount of power. By focussing on yourself and your mind you are able to create and control the circumstances around you. Visualisation is one technique that can help you do this. Whilst work and taking action is always required the power of your mind and of positive thinking is immense and you have full control of it.

Create Your Own Good Luck

June 24, 2007

Would you like to be able to create your own luck? Yeah of course you would. We have all experienced our own streaks of good and bad fortune. Luck is a funny thing though, it’s nature is so random, coming and going as it pleases, yet almost always deserting you when you desire it most and reappearing when you least expect it.

You have probably experienced this yourself at some point: a hot run at the bookies, favourable career decisions going your way and so on… yet almost as gauranteed as day follows night the luck seems to disappear. It usually occurs just as soon as you start to reflect on your recent good form and start to worry about how long it will continue to run for. This doubt and fear then robs you of the very thing that created your luck in the first place. In short it makes you fearful and indecisive.

When your run of luck started I’m sure you remember that it came down to making a definite decision of some sort: to apply for a job or back your business instinct but whatever it was it came down to making a positive decision. It should be of no surprise then that as soon as you started to reflect on your ‘good luck’ and started to worry about how long it would last this fear almost inevitabley leads you to be indecisive and indeed robs you of your luck in a quite ironic fashion.

So a few keys to remember when wanting to create yourself some luck:
Be decisive and proactive, don’t doubt and just accept the luck by not questioning it.

I find this approach nicely summed up by U.S Anderson (The Magic In Your Mind):

“Whatever you are afraid to do, do it and you will be startled that you are no longer afraid. Whatever you are unable to decide, decide it, and you will be amazed how correct your decisions has been.”

Furthermore whenever you experience bad luck or misfortune see it as challenge. Nature tends to challenge us when we are at our lowest ebb in order to provide us with an opportunity to grow. Be unafriad of the challenge, take it on, make the decisions that need to be made and the tide of good luck will soon start to turn in your favour. It must be noted here however that a decision has not been made until it has been acted upon and this is the one thing that lets so many people down… there own lack of action.

So when you have made and acted upon your decisions, be proud of them stick to them and never give up. When your luck and good fortune is strong don’t doubt or question it just go with it and your luck will continue to provide for you for just as long as you let it!

Positive Thinking for Profits and Wealth

May 30, 2007

What lies within you, that which is you, your thoughts and internal processing reflects outwardly into the world and manifests itself as your day to day life. Each belief, thought pattern and indeed your inner programming is an almost inevitable vision of your future…unless you change it!

Look at your life now. Take the major events in your life, the relationships, economic situation, your lifestyle and health. Trace these back to where they came from and you will find the first cause inevitably lies within. Take a look at your beliefs and see how they match up to where you are now.

So if your inner programming is so important then how can we start to influence and consciously change our own internal processes to reflect that which we desire. Well let’s look at money as an example. If your parents were/are solid local government employees the chances are that you of the opinion that money is all about hard work spending time at the office trading your time and hard effort for an after tax wage at the end of each month, then how can you go about changing this pattern of thought.

Well, a good start would be to focus your attention and thoughts on a particular object of your desire that fills you with passion, something that requires money to attain but that you will be really motivated to obtain.
Now remembering that faith and belief are so powerful that they are the foundation of most religions how about applying them to your own goals in life. Develop your own level of belief that you will purchase that house by the sea or whatever other goal fills you with burning desire. Start to visualize yourself actually in the house, waking up in the morning, walking on to the balcony and feeling alive with the gaping view of the sun-rise. Create in your mind a place or tunnel that you can enter and feel those thoughts and emotions at anytime and practice them regularly.

At first it may feel unrealistic that you are living your dream in your minds eye, however this is where persistence comes in. As you use this visualization technique regularly the thoughts will gain more clarity and will become more familiar, they will shrug off the feeling of unfamiliarity as you also see the pointers in your life opening the way towards your dreams fruition. Your thoughts will force you into taking positive action towards fulfilling your desires. And as you notice the doors opening where previously the way seemed barred your self-confidence and belief will increase and you will feel certain that you are but just a step away from your attaining your initial vision and desire.

Finally you will notice that your inner beliefs and desires will have led your actions along a parallel course that literally has made you take continuous positive action towards your goals until at last let you physically are taking in the sunrise views from your very own beach-side villa.

The use of this visualization or positive thinking procedure creates favorable thought and action habits. This is no magic bullet to be taken, did you ever meet a person with lasting wealth who hadn’t worked for it? Dreams do not come true by dreaming but by continuous positive action focused on a particular goal inspired by your thoughts and belief.

I invite you now to start your own visualization process. Put aside a few minutes each day to go through this move in your mind and keep with it, make it a part of your routine each day. Decide to improve your life here and now but most of all remember that a decision hasn’t been made until you take action on it! So start right-away.

Try Paradigm Shifting Next Time You Are Feeling Blue

May 21, 2007

Try Paradigm Shifting Next Time You Are Feeling Blue

A few years ago I remember being never staisfied at work. I never earned enough, it was always tiresome, tedious and I got zero staisafction from it. However that was then and this is now and I feel empowered, satisfied and indeed the exact opposite than I had previously.

The strange thing is however that I actually do virtually the same job. Now what the job is is not so important, what is important is that I feel completely different about it and much more positive… even though it is actually the same.

Of course I stopped to question myself about why this was one day recently. I had not really put my finger on the reason why I had experienced this change although it should have been obvious. You see in between these two points in time I had experienced a paradigm shift. Basically I had spent over a year working abroad in developing countries where my work and life had bought me into contact with many people who are deprived of the considerable opportunities that are available to many of us in the western world.

Where I happened to be staying an Asian friend of mine had ten days holiday a year worked ten hour days, six days a week and earned what I could earn in just a few days. However what struck me the most was that that job was about as good as it would get for that person. They had very little scope for progress due to societal pressures and would always really be stuck in that position.

Fast forward a year or so and I’m back in my homeland (UK) doing the exact same job where I was previously miserable but with a completely different outlook on it. I am now happy and overjoyed that I can progress with my work as much as I want, that I get weekends off and really if I am honest a comparitively healthy salary. I think it is fair to say that the job has certainly not changed but my attitude has which has made life so much more positive and enjoyable.

You could say it is the old ‘Is the glass half empty or half full?’ syndrome. However I would have to say that the positive shift has had a continuous knock on effect on other areas of my life. My positive attitude has led me to see other situations also in a more positive light which in turn has led me to be more motivated and act on those situations positively whereas as previously I may not have.

Adopting this positive attitude is a profoundly effective way of enjoying life more and creating more of what is already good in your life.

The good news is you don’t have to go abroad and spend a year in a foreign country just to appreciate what you already have and create your own paradigm shift. If you want you can imagine what it would be like to have lived a few hundred years ago without all the luxuries we have now….no electricity, running water and so on.

However an easier way to appreciate what is already good in your life would be to sit and write down (Yes that’s right, I’m asking you to be pro-active) the things you currently enjoy in your life. Focus on them, savour them and be thankful for them every time you do them.

This will overtime lead you to be able to look at your life and see the positives nefore the negatives. This habit of seeing the positives before the negatives will in turn perpetuate them into other areas of your life until that previously half empty glass of yours is suddenly at least half full and in fact will soon be over-flowing if you continue in the same vein.

It is just as easy to be positive as it is to be negative, develop the habit and you are creating an invaluable life skill that will enhance you life from now on.
