Well I’ve heard so much about the Secret DVD but just never got around to watching it. In truth I had read rave reviews but it didn’t sound like anything new really. I’ve read too many books on similar sounding subjects that I was in no rush to go out and watch it.
A couple of nights ago however I was online and came across a site about it. I was scrolling through the blurb and was about to click off the page when one name suddenly jumped off the page at me.
The name was Neale Donald Walsch. The reason it stood out with such distinction is that it took me back to a very happy time in my life. I was in New Zealand at the time as a care-free backpacker eager to get some multi-day hiking under my belt. Over there the scenery is fantastic (well worth a visit if you get the chance!) however the weather is not always so hospitable. In fact I was basically waiting in my tent for the weather to clear up before I was going out on my next hiking trip.
I was camping outside of a small town called Queenstown (very touristy) on the South Island and it seemd the weather would never clear up. It rained and rained and rained some more. Nearly four days non-stop! However it did give me the opportunity to get some serious reading done and it was during that time that I first picked up a book called: ‘Conversations with God’ by Neale Donald Walsh. I found the book title intriguing and once I started it I just couldn’t put it down. The general idea behind the book is that the author is asking and answering questions of God and he is providing cast iron answers. It really blew me away. It just seemed to fit in so well with all the other theories I’d read about from other authors and also co-incided with some of my own thoughts.
As each question was asked and answered more and more light bulbs came on in my head. So enthralled with the concept of asking and answering questions directly with God I read straight through the book inside a day and then went out and purchased the next two books in the series which were equally enthralling.
Here is a brief outline of Mr Walsh’ philosophies
- Everything in the universe is combined and we are essentially all one.
- There’s an abundance of everything.
- We are not obligated to do anything or follow any one path.
- The ‘way’ we choose is not necessarily the best or the worst, just another way.
In a nutshell it presumes there is no division between anything as there is only one, which is God and God is everything. We have the means to create everything from within if we would just realise this. Whichever way we choose to go about life it is neither right nor wrong it is just a different way of going through life and allows God to experience himself in another way.
Oh and apparently life on other planets does exist and so does reincarnation.
Well anyway, when I noticed Mr Walsch’ name as one of the people featured on the DVD I really felt drawn to buy. I found all his insights fascinating and so I’m pretty much about to pop the Secret DVD into my player now to see what more insights I can glean from this author who claims to have been inregular conversation with God.
However I guess really a conversation with God is no more different than a Christian praying to God on a daily basis, but it is certainly rare to have transcribed with such clarity the thoughts of God!
Anyway the power of positive thinking is available to anyone who asks.
