The Law of Attraction: The Unanswerable Question Answered?

March 25, 2007

Question: If we attract only that which we think about, then how can you explain negative manifestations in the lives of very happy and positive people. I’m talking about devastating events such as being diagnosed with cancer, car accidents and so on. Surely nobody actively thinks about these things, let alone attracts them. Even very positive dynamic people have suffered these unfortunate consequences. How does the ‘Law of Attraction’ and positive thinking explain away these occurences?

My Answer: I think it is important to remember that the ‘Law of Attraction’ is not just a force that works on an individual one-to-one basis. It is at work with the entire universe. We are truly talking about a far reaching global force here. Just as gravity works to hold down your pencil to the table, it also works to hold down the mountains to the earth.

Now let’s have a look at the force of gravity in action for a moment. Imagine two objects, a large asteroid and a small pebble. Which is going to make the biggest impact upon the ocean, the pebble falling from the sky or the asteroid falling from the same height. Both are under the same force, only of course the asteroid is going to make a much bigger impact than the pebble. So it is not that the law of gravity is not working upon the pebble, it is… just that when it hits the ground it’s impact is going to be over-ridden by the impact of the asteroid. What I’m saying is that the impact of the settingsun.jpgasteroid will over-ride and negate the pebbles impact.

Here is how this applies to our lives. You could equate the force of the asteroid to the belief in society that ‘car crashes do happen at random’. I imagine if you conducted a survey of a few thousand people you would get the opinion that people do in fact believe that. So guess what is going to mainfest in real life. Regardless of whether you as an individual have any particular belief about this subject,  someone is inevitably going to be randomly invloved in a car accident and therefore suffer the consequences of societies beliefs and point of attraction. Even if the individual person believed that they personally would not suffer this particular fate. Which force is going to have the largest attraction point, the asteroid of societies belief or the pebble of one person’s thoughts.

Following this unbreakable law it becomes apparent then that the over-riding beliefs of society will make an impact on some people’s lives. That is not to say you cannot enhance your own level of attraction, you most certainly can alter and change it to attract that which you wish, however there may be some occassions whereby this force is simply over-taken by societies beliefs and attraction levels. This maybe especially true in areas of your life where you may already have a low point of attraction and not applied much focus.

Another example of this in operation may be the observation of some countries. Of course there are many reasons why some countries are poorer than others but if you have a nation of people desperately hungry and living in poverty. Where do you think there most dominant thoughts are going to be focussed upon…more than likely on feelings of lack and of wanting. Of course then this is only going to attract more of the same and when entire nations are experiencing these thoughts and feelings, how on earth can they break-free from their poverty?

Whilst I don’t wish to be-little any country, person, place or thing it does appear that the world really is not helping itself a great deal. Ok, so if I’m so smart what is the answer then? Well, I guess if everyone could become aware and use this concept in their favour, shifting their beliefs to abundance and well-being then maybe the world might have a chance of elimating fear, worry, poverty and so on. Now that’s a pretty big ask for sure, especially when you are one of the people suffering sat wondering where the next meal will come from!

The only way I could ever possibly see this happening is quite frankly through religion. How else could the entire world be united and taught these truths. I believe Jesus had it absolutley correct with his teachings of loving thy neighbour. He knew that by doing so this would inevitably attract the same feelings and manifestations of these back towards him. He assuredly knew that God/source energy/infinite power would match this vibrational thought pattern and return it to him. Two well known Bible messages backing this up on both the positive and negative side of this law include: ‘

Seek ye first the kingdom of god and all these things shall be added unto you’
and:
‘Those whom fight by the sword shall die by the sword’.

I hope you too can see the power in these statements. I’m sure some people reading this will disagree and differ with some of my statements and that’s fine. Each of us is on our own journey of inner discovery and what is true for one persons experience clearly may not be for anothers. The important thing to remember is to keep growing, keep progressing, keep discovering and above all to enjoy the journey….for you are going to be on this journey all of your life! Why not make it a positive thinking one full of abundance and prosperity.

Beyond Positive Thinking: Studying The Wise Ones

March 22, 2007

Robert Collier was an author of Christian science, self improvement, metaphysical and personal development books.  His works recently received favourable mentions in the recent hit movie ‘the secret’ which has renewed interest in his works. Here are some of my favourite quotes taken from his books. For the full profile click ‘positive thinking’ now.

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out…”

“The mere fact that you have obstacles to overcome is in your favor…”

“You must intensify and render continuous by repeatedly presenting with suggestive ideas and mental pictures of the feast of good things, and the flowing fountain, which awaits the successful achievement or attainment of the desires.”

“You have to sow before you can reap. You have to give before you can get.”

“All of us have bad luck and good luck. The man who persists through the bad luck–who keeps right on going–is the man who is there when the good luck comes–and is ready to receive it.”

“See things as you would have them be instead of as they are.”

Avoiding The Dangers Of Positive Thinking!

March 20, 2007

Although I am a great believer in the power of positive thinking I also realise the dangers and pitfalls of this approach. If you have ever tried to kid yourself that everything will be ok and glossed over certain issues because you wanted to avoid them, or did not know how to deal with them… then your positive thinking has in fact hindered you and not helped you.

Don’t overlook your problems but confront them with a positive thinking approach.  By working them out with a positive approach you will both remove the nagging negative feelings at the back of your mind but also provide the best platform possible for success.

I know what your asking: ‘how can you confront a problem positively’. Well one way to do so is through a questioning approach. The premise behind this technique is the old addage: ‘Asking the best questions, invites the best results’

If your searching for direction in life, feeling life is too mundane, in need of inspiration or motivation then try answering these questions honestly.

1. What is my innermost desire for my life right now?
2. What are my top goals for this month and year?
3. Why are these the best goals for me to be aiming for?
4. How can I most quickly and realistically achieve these outcomes?
5. What am I doing to ensure that I am seizing the moment and actively creating these goals?

Questions are a great way of identifying exactly what your inner thoughts and feelings are. Whilst the answers may not become apparent immediately once the mind has been questioned it then at least has the opportunity to provide the answer.

Many of the great minds of the world have been the ones that have also ask the best questions, hence the following adage:
‘By asking the best questions, you invite the best results.’

Harnessing The Power of Concentration

March 15, 2007

Have you ever focussed your entire life around the achievement of one goal?

Have you ever arranged your life to fit the needs of progress in one tiny area of your life?

Have you ever felt the burning desire to maximise your talents which has led you to focus on one unerring goal?

If the answer to these questions is a ‘no’ then it may be that you have so far not accompished all that you migh have thus far. You may be going through life by being led more by circumstance than by actually controlling your own destination and outcome. Take a look now at your life. Are you really the decision maker in your life or is life dictating to you? What decisions have you consciously made recently that are really steering the direction of your life?

It is very easy to be distracted by the material world we live in, to be dictated to by earthly desires: money, cars, careers, television, fashion and ultimately society at large. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with those things but are you simply living up to the expectations of society rather than fulfilling your own internal desires.

Are you really following the things that you want to achieve in life, I am talking about the things unique to you. The things you are passionate about and gifted at. We all have our own personal desires and talents. If we can identify what these things are and then let them flow through our lives unhindered then imagine how much more happy and successful you would be.

Learn to nurture one definite goal that you wish to achieve and focus on that one desire. Do not be like most people who merely wish to have many things but lack both the desire and the purpose to achieve any of them and therefore garauntee themselves more of the same ‘lack of fulfillment’.

The good news is you can break free from this error by simply learning to concentrate on your one goal. Now don’t worry about working out ‘how to concentrate’. Concentration is in actuality a thing to do not an abstract theory. Have you ever been so interested in a soccer game to the exclusion of all else? If you have you will remember how dominated your mind becomes by thoughts of the game, to the exclusion of all else. It is this same approach that will allow you to focus and concentrate on your own chosen desire and to make it real in your life.

Here is my challenge to you: Establish one clear desire for yourself that comes from within (something you personally wish to accomplish) and concentrate all your effort towards the achievement of this goal. Now see how much more effective you will be focussing on one individual goal and not spreading your efforts on vague wishes. Robert Collier sums this point up best:

” The time you put in aimlessly dreaming and wishing would accomplish marvels if it were concentrated on one definite object”

A further natural testimony to this is the suns rays. Whilst they remain scattered they accomplish little but when concentrated through a magnifying glass a much greater power becomes available.

In short you need to find that one intense desire that you are willing to sacrifice all else for, that one thing that pulls you deep inside, that one thing that will inspire yourself and others to great achievements. Focus on that one thing and never give in until you have accomplished your goal. Once you have mastered this process you really can say that you are the master of your fate and the captain of your soul! What a joyous day that will be.

Beyond Positive Thinking: Your Bright Hope

March 11, 2007

I was reading a book recently  (I forgot the name) and came across this brief story contained within. I found it a really good reminder of how our own attitudes and thoughts …. or rather the way we choose to think effects out lives:

Here it is in a nutshell then….

One day the sun was talking to some of the animals of the earth. The Sun always enjoyed having these conversations as he often got a bit lonely up there in the sky. Anyway this time he really did not enjoy what he heard in the conversation.

All the animals were telling him of a really dark and fearful place where nothing but trouble happened. The Sun became very alarmed and decided that she (yes the sun is a she;) must investigate this further.

The Sun went to the very centre of this dark and fearful place. Confusion reigned in her mind for a while…..for she could see now darkness could feel no fear. She went back to the animals to tell them this. At first they were disbelieving so they asked the sun to go with them. To their delight the same dark fearful places which had previously appeared so menacing and terrible had now become a very pleasant spot that they were more than happy to be at.  In fact now they could see that it was indeed full of opportunity for living: nests, burrows and food. They thanked the sun and now try to take her with them whereever they go.

THE END..

oh and of course….they all lived happily ever after!

I guess the point that I can see from all that little story is the fact that whatever situation you enter into, if you enter it with a mind to positive and to concentrate on the good aspects and not focus on the negative then you will have a great deal more success …not to mention less stress and worry.

Remeber then: Energy flows where attention goes.

Register Your ‘Secret LoA’ Intentions Here!

March 7, 2007

Well it has been a few days now since I watched the ‘Secret’ DVD. Yeah I know I’m way behind everyone else but hey that’s life. You know it’s great having a blog and being able to express my feelings, sure people will always have different opinions but here is my take on it:

Firstly, I found it really refreshing to see people talking opnely about it on my tv screen. I have been reading a books on this subject for years so it is actually a really nice change to be able to really see the authors and teachers of this sort of subject discussing it openly and sharing their successes.

Secondly, whilst the main message was nothing new I still picked up some really really useful things and new techniques to try and use myself. One idea I liked was the vision boards mentioned which it seems would be a really simple way of being able to focus your thoughts everyday on what you want.

I also had forgotten just how effective the feeling of thankfulness could be. I am now trying to adopt the habit of not getting out of bed until I’ve made a mental list of some of the things I am most thankful for in life…you know really simple things like my health, the birds singing outside, my sister’s pregnancy, my parents, the beautiful countryside and so on…

So far I have found this a really effective and easy way to start the day and it has never failed to leave me feeling really great with a smile on my face before my feet even touch the floor for the day.

As regards an earlier post I made about the ‘big lie of the law of attraction’ I was making the point that work was still required to make anything work in life including the LOA. Whilst there wasn’t really much emphasis placed on the work and effort side of it. This didn’t bother me so much as they all clearly had become successful from the work they had done (authoring books and so on) and also everyone knows ‘how to work’ or they should…so there wouldn’t really be much use making a dvd about that would there.

So a big thumbs up…..

However the main point of this post is to actually allow myself and you to start implementing the ‘Law of Attraction’ right now.

I guess most of you who’ve seen the DVD will be aware that one of the main starting points is to register your intentions with the universe. So here is an opportunity for us all to kick start our attraction process.

I’m going to kick the ball off and throw my intentions out there to the universe. I’m going to set an attractional vibrational force in motion for gaining 10 comments on one of my blog posts in the coming months (max 5 so far). I will spend sometime focus  my thoughts on this when I write future posts and it will be an open experiment for us all too witness.

Now if any of you guys out there want to signal your intentions to the universe then feel free to post a reply and state clearly what it is you are going to attract into your life. Remain anomynous if you like but the point is just to get your thoughts out there…..maybe you will be able to comeback and let us all know in the future if you attracted them or not.

Well, feel free to put your intentions out there and remember…

Ask, Believe, Receive!

How about finishing the following sentence: I am so happy and grateful now that…..

The Secret DVD: My Reason For Watching

March 2, 2007

Well I’ve heard so much about the Secret DVD but just never got around to watching it. In truth I had read rave reviews but it didn’t sound like anything new really. I’ve read too many books on similar sounding subjects that I was in no rush to go out and watch it.

A couple of nights ago however I was online and came across a site about it. I was scrolling through the blurb and was about to click off the page when one name suddenly jumped off the page at me.

The name was  Neale Donald Walsch. The reason it stood out with such distinction is that it took me back to a very happy time in my life. I was in New Zealand at the time as a care-free backpacker eager to get some multi-day hiking under my belt. Over there the scenery is fantastic (well worth a visit if you get the chance!) however the weather is not always so hospitable. In fact I was basically waiting in my tent for the weather to clear up before I was going out on my next hiking trip.

I was camping outside of a small town called Queenstown (very touristy) on the South Island and it seemd the weather would never clear up. It rained and rained and rained some more. Nearly four days non-stop! However it did give me the opportunity to get some serious reading done and it was during that time that I first picked up a book called: ‘Conversations with God’ by Neale Donald Walsh. I found the book title intriguing and once I started it I just couldn’t put it down. The general idea behind the book is that the author is asking and answering questions of God and he is providing cast iron answers. It really blew me away. It just seemed to fit in so well with all the other theories I’d read about from other authors and also co-incided with some of my own thoughts.

As each question was asked and answered more and more light bulbs came on in my head. So enthralled with the concept of asking and answering questions directly with God I read straight through the book inside a day and then went out and purchased the next two books in the series which were equally enthralling.

Here is a brief outline of Mr Walsh’ philosophies

  1. Everything in the universe is combined and we are essentially all one.
  2. There’s an abundance of everything.
  3. We are not obligated to do anything or follow any one path.
  4. The ‘way’ we choose is not necessarily the best or the worst, just another way.

In a nutshell it presumes there is no division between anything as there is only one, which is God and God is everything.  We have the means to create everything from within if we would just realise this. Whichever way we choose to go about life it is neither right nor wrong it is just a different way of going through life and allows God to experience himself in another way.

Oh and apparently life on other planets does exist and so does reincarnation.

Well anyway, when I noticed Mr Walsch’ name as one of the people featured on the DVD I really felt drawn to buy. I found all his insights fascinating and so I’m pretty much about to pop the Secret DVD into my player now to see what more insights I can glean from this author who claims to have been inregular conversation with God.

However I guess really a conversation with God is no more different than a Christian praying to God on a daily basis, but it is certainly rare to have transcribed with such clarity the thoughts of God!

Anyway the power of positive thinking is available to anyone who asks.
