Gee….. these last few weeks I’ve been pretty laid low with a combination of flu and tonsilitus. I have not felt as rough as this since I spent a week in a Japanese hospital a couple of years ago….that time I could hardly breathe and it didn’t help not understanding a word anyone was saying.
This time however I remember waking up in the night and never ever feeling as cold in my life, I mean like I felt like I was freezing to death, I was shuddering to the core.
Clearly I haven’t died but for some reason it reminded me of an experiment someone did with rats once. They put them in a fish tank with no way to get out. Some rats swam and swam and swam even though they couldn’t escape, other rats just gave up very quickly and accepted their own fate. Eventually the scientists removed the rats that were still swimming. The point is even if you can’t see how you are ever going to escape from a particular situation it is important to simply…never give in….you don’t know when you are going to get your lucky break!
The power of this philosophy is proven many times over. There are countless stories of how people have risen from poor impoverished backgrounds to places that they would never have originally dreamed possible. Fomer bankrupts turned millionaires, former cancer patients turned marathon runners…in fact one of my favourite stories is Terry Fox who did just that after losing a leg to cancer he subsequently went on to raise huge amounts of money for cancer by runnning across Canada! What a mindset and what an achievement, surely something we can all learn from.

Oh wait. Yes, I have. I’m sorry, but I just don’t have it in me right now to type it all out again. Besides, it was just ramblings anyway. You didn’t want to hear me go on and on about this, right?
